Merewether Dog Off-Leash Area
44 Ocean St, Merewether, NSW
Merewether Dog Off-Leash Area is an expansive and scenic recreational space located along the coastline, offering a diverse range of environments for dogs and their owners. The area features both wide sandy beaches and large, rolling grassy hills, providing ample room for various activities. The beach section allows dogs to run along the shoreline and swim in the ocean, with iconic views of the nearby headland and lighthouse in the background. Transitioning away from the water, the park includes vast green spaces with natural slopes, perfect for long walks and high-energy games of fetch. While the area is designated for off-leash use, it appears to be largely unfenced, relying on natural boundaries and the vastness of the terrain. Mature trees scattered throughout the grassy sections provide patches of natural shade, and at least one bench is visible for owners to rest. The atmosphere is vibrant and active, characterized by the coastal breeze and the sight of dogs enjoying the freedom of the open space. The terrain is mixed, consisting of soft sand and well-maintained grass.

We love having fun at the off leash dog park. Nova loves it and there is always some other dog to play with and adult to chat too. Coffee shop close by and of course great parking near the beach.

Great fenced in playground for kids
It’s a great place for your dog to play in the morning or evening. Note that dogs are not supposed to be off lead from 9 to 5. Also contrary to some comments here the beach is off limit
It's a nice scenic park that doesn't get as muddy as other dog parks; however, being near a picnic area and a cafe, if your dog gets easily distracted by the smells of hamburgers and sausage sangers, your pooch will keep you on your toes.
Very popular place. Only open during certain hours make sure to check the signs. The kids play ground is now fenced in making it much safer. Tough to get a park on a hot day!
